Each and every PC or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which communicates with the computer hardware, including peripherals such as a mouse and a printer, together with any apps that are present on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a web server, every single app runs within the parameters defined by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This is valid for both standard website scripts and server-side software like a media server. If a virtual server is generated on a physical one, there can be two different Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, so you will be able to set up a different software environment on a single machine.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

The dedicated server packages that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to choose from. They are all Linux release - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license fees, but they’re also known as the most dependable and safe OSs. We supply three different ones since each of them is supported by a separate community. The packages that you could add on your server are different and this may matter if you need to install some piece of software with specific requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the web hosting Control Panel which you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the OS that you'll pick. You can select any of the three Operating Systems during the order process, however if needed, we can always set up the server once again with another one upon your request. As an additional service that you may add to the plan any time, we can update the OS regularly so as to keep it as risk-free as possible.
