More and more people use mobile gadgets to access the Internet, so the demand for mobile-friendly websites is ever growing. To meet this demand, the entity that supervises the universal domain name extensions, ICANN, launched the dot MOBI extension in 2005. The first registrations were enabled in September 2006, and the idea behind this TLD is that all websites that use it need to comply with specific rules. In other words, all dot MOBI websites are required to be created to be opened without problems by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” formulated by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in cooperation with the .MOBI Registry organization. These have to do with how a web page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), and so on.

The rules have raised some concerns taking into consideration that the top-level domain is the only one that specifies what devices has to be able to access a website and the way in which this needs to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a web page should be designed in such a way as to be opened by the majority of browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Taking into account that the .MOBI Registry organization does not offer domains directly, you can grab a .MOBI domain with any third-party provider, such as ours. If you have an already registered domain, you can also transfer it to our firm if you obtain its EPP transfer authorization code from your present registrar company.
